MOre Prayers for Vocations
Holy Hour For Vocations - good for an individuals or small group
National Vocation Awareness Week is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.
In addition, the Catholic Church is looking ahead to the next Synod of Bishop, which will focus on young people, the faith, and vocational discernment.

Father Ross Parker, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Des Moines, expresses his appreciation for everything you do to cultivate a culture of vocations in our parishes. Below he shares with us four specific things we can do to promote vocation awareness:
1. Talk about your own vocation (both your universal call to being a holy person and your specific vocation – married, clergy, and consecrated religious or consecrated single) and what it means to you.
2. Encourage people to pray for vocations, especially for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Also, include a petition encouraging vocations during your family prayer time.
3. Invite young men to attend the Andrew Dinner at the Basilica of St. John on November 8 at 6PM. What is an Andrew Dinner? It is a gathering of individuals whom might think have a priestly vocation or the qualities needed in a good priest to have dinner with the bishop in a relaxed, "no pressure" atmosphere of discussion and dialogue about the life of a priest and a priestly vocation that would normally not be afforded in the parish setting. It provides the accompanying priests the chance to share their vocation stories as well as to hear the vocation story of the bishop. This also gives the bishop the opportunity to interact with those who are considering the priesthood and to encourage them to follow the Lord's call.
4. Welcome people to the “Vocation Team” along with Bishop Pates, Fr. Parker, and Cathy Jordan. Remind them that all of us are charged with the task of inviting young people to think about where God may be calling them.
Finally, Considering a Religious Vocation? Father Parker would love to visit with you. You can reach him at [email protected].
Living out your Vocation is so important for living a life with Christ and in communion with others! Think about it! Pray about it! Live it!

The Des Moines Diocese has already completed a version of the survey if you would like to see some of their questions and results view the document below. Even if you don't have time to complete the survey, read through these questions and consider how you would answer as a young person in the Church today. What is your role? What part do you have to play?
